Adenoid Surgery

Adenoid Surgery

The adenoids (adenoid tonsils) are lymphoid tissue that are located in the post nasal space. When enlarged they can contribute to impaired nasal breathing which is implicated in snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.

Adenoid enlargement can also cause obstruction of the auditory (eustachian) tube resulting in ear complaints including “glue ear” (otitis media with effusion) and recurrent ear infections (acute otitis media).

The adenoids can be examined in clinic by nasal endoscopy using a scope with a camera both in adults and cooperative children.

When indicated, adenoid surgery can be performed as a day case under general anaesthetic.
